One of our best POYS ever

Last weekend saw the long-awaited return of the Pony of the Year Show, which was held at Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire, from April 29th to May 2nd.

Always a highlight of the competition calendar, four days of fun and fast-paced action as the UK’s most talented ponies and riders compete for a range of much-coveted prizes – the pinnacle of which are the Grand Prix titles and the Brickfield Equine Junior Team had unprecedented success rarely out of the Top-10 each day.

Ryan de Sousa had two double clears in the 90cm Intro Qualifier on Ballylerk Lucky, finishing 7th overall in the 90cm Intro Classic.

Mighty Mouse W Van De Dauwhoeve and Ryan recorded a double clear in the Talent Spotters Grand Prix Qualifier, finishing 16th and making the cut as the first 20 riders went through to the final. The pair teamed up again for another double clear in the 1m Grand Prix Final, finishing 3rd overall.

Alanna Harris rode a cracking round to finish fifth overall in the Intro Open Grand Prix Final with a time of 35.08 – a super result to finish in the top five of 96 entrants, especially as Alanna only started riding 18 months ago. She has a bright future ahead of her.

Ryan also teamed up with Tango de Kergan and the pair recorded double clear rounds every day of the event in the 110m Children On Horses class, and finished in the top-5 every day.  They finished 4th on Friday, won the class on Saturday and were 5th on Sunday.

It was a hugely successful Pony Of The Year Show for the young riders and four days of wonderful fun at the event. Many thanks to the organisers and to all my staff at home and at the show who put in a lot of time and effort – Kim Bilton, Victoria Frost, Abel O’Gorman and Sean Huggan.
